PdG. Three letters that make the hearts of many ski mountaineers beat faster. Who hasn’t dreamt of trying this adventure once in their life? And among the ever-increasing number of enthusiasts who sign up for this legendary race, some names have left their mark on the history of the Patrouille des Glaciers by winning and, at the same time, defying the stopwatch in previous editions.
Looking back, the athletic development is impressive. In 1944, the winners reached VERBIER from ZERMATT in 13 hours, but today the time has dropped well below six hours, and the women’s time is close to seven hours on the long route. From AROLLA, the record was set by a patrol in less than three hours.
